Principal's Message

Dear P.S. 35 Parents and or Guardians,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. I hope that you and your family were able to enjoy the summer and everyone is now energized and looking forward to an exciting school year.  My name is Ms. Mia Peebles-Davis and I am honored to join The Nathaniel Woodhull School as the Acting Principal.  I look forward to partnering with you to provide your child(ren) with an engaging and inclusive educational experience.

As a reminder, the first day of school is Thursday, September 5, 2019 and school begins at 8:00 am and ends at 2:20 pm.  Staff members are on site beginning at 7:30 am to welcome our students.  Please be mindful of our start and end times to ensure your child arrives to school on time and is picked up promptly at the end of the school day.  Our breakfast program which offers warm and cold food options, begins at 7:45 am and is available until 8:15 am.

Having an open line of communication between parents and the school is very important.  To ensure we have the most current contact information Emergency Blue cards will be sent home during the first week of school.  Please fill in all of the requested information.  In case of an emergency, it is extremely important that we have the most up-to-date contact person and working numbers.  If any contact number changes during the school year please come in to our Welcome Center (the Main Office) to update the Emergency Blue card.  As a reminder, students can only be released to the specific adults listed on the Blue Emergency Card.

Students are strongly encouraged not to bring electronic devices to school as they are not permitted. Please be advised we are not responsible for electronic devices if they are broken, lost or stolen.

We are excited to share the Department of Education has partnered with Sanford Harmony, a wonderful Pre-K to grade 6 Social Emotional Learning program.  The program is designed to foster communication, connection, and community both in and outside the classroom, and assist with developing our boys and girls into compassionate and caring adults.  Sanford Harmony offers practical strategies, stories, activities, and lessons centered around social emotional learning. The themes include diversity and inclusion, empathy and critical thinking, communication, problem solving, and peer relationships.  You may visit their website at www.sanfordharmony.org for additional information.

P.S. 35’s faculty and staff are committed, experienced and collaborative.  We believe in working closely with parents and others to ensure that every child’s academic, emotional and social needs are met and that their elementary school years are happy and enriched.  I look forward to working with you this coming year and encourage you to become involved with the Parent Teacher Association by attending our monthly meetings and or one of the other many parent engagement opportunities which will be offered.

We welcome ideas and volunteers!  Your voice, involvement and support are crucial for our overall success as you are a valuable member of our school team.  If you have any questions or a concern please contact Ms. Banks our Parent Coordinator. She is always available to answer your questions and to address your concerns.

Sincerely,

Ms. Peebles-Davis, Acting Principal
